THERE'S A LOT GOING ON IN THE CITY, TOWNS AND VILLAGES AROUND US
From the great whaling ships of years gone by to the hi-tech world of offshore oil, Dundee has always had an affinite to the sea but now it's recognised as a serious tourist attraction in its own right. V&A Dundee has been designed by Kengo Kuma, the internationally renowned architect who is also designing the Tokyo 2020 Olympic stadium. V&A Dundee, due to open later in 2018, will be the first building in the UK by Kuma. V&A Dundee has been established in close partnership with the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, accessing its collections, curatorial expertise and exhibitions. It is run independently with its own Director and, as well as bringing V&A exhibitions to Scotland, it will develop its own exhibitions. Dundee has undergone a remarkable transformation in recent years and has lots to offer. Scotland's acclaimed visitor centres - At Discovery Point explore Captain Scott's Royal Research Ship 'Discovery', the famous polar exploration vessel or still on a nautical theme step on board H. M. Carnoustie
Carnoustie is a small town on the Angus coast between Dundee and Arbroath, famed for its championship golf course. Windsurfing, canoeing and sailing are also enjoyed in the large shallow bay in the town. The famous Carnoustie links has proved a magnetic challenge for golfers of all standards. It was the scene of local lad Paul Lawrie's heroics in the 1999 Open Championship, when he lifted the famous claret jug. This part of Scotland's east coast is well known for its fine sandy Carnoustie Bay, so Carnoustie has long been a favourite seaside holiday resort with all the amenities you would expect. From heritage trails to championship golf, Carnoustie has a lot to offer. While golfers test their skills on the varying courses in and around Carnoustie, swimming, sailing, windsurfing and fishing can be enjoyed at the bay. Carnoustie Gala Week is the highlight of the summer (apart from when the the Open comes to town)!
