Fancy something a little different? An eating experience that’s new, a little off the mainstream but is immersed in an atmosphere of its very own? BARRY DOWNS BISTRO is garnering rave reviews and it’s not just the food, it’s the whole vibe of the place and the staff. There’s a fresh, Mediterranean feel with an indoor dining area that’s uncomplicated and intimate and an outdoors area where the sunshine can flood in as you enjoy your food in a space that is enclosed but still manages to feel “outside”. Natural wood and soft music are the signature themes and the bistro is welcoming and simple - it’s a place for eating, enjoying company and making the world go for a while, not admiring ornaments . They’ve managed to achieve that elusive blend of chilled-but-not-slow, passionate about the food but not pretentious. And perhaps best of all, you’re getting unrivalled food for prices that won’t make your eyes water – the High Tea Platter is only £5.50, for example. This is traditional food with a twist, it’s bistro fare but finished with flair and it’s right on your doorstep at Barry Downs.
What our customers say
Recommended by a friend who had supper there, she returned with me for breakfast. Great. Nice choice, well served by a very pleasant member of staff. The premises have been nicely done with tasteful understated furniture and crockery with nice touches. Coffee was excellent and came in a good sized glass mug with a good sensible handle. Looking forward to returning first of all for afternoon tea.
Second visit to the Bistro and both were 1st class, The warm welcome from the young Gentleman that greeted us was most welcome after the cold windy walk to the Bistro !!! After being seated and given the menus the order was taken without any fuss and our soft drinks arrived very promptly. There were a few tables being occupied and all the other dinners seemed jolly and enjoying there meals which encouraged us greatly. When our meals arrived, Thai Green Curry and Rice, and 2 Fillet Steaks with Prawns (both cooked to perfection one rare and one med/well) we were truly amazed. The Curry was so tasty and obviously home made, and both the Butcher and Chef are to be commended on the Steaks tenderness and taste. Being totally indulgent after seeing the delightful refrigerated display of home made deserts 2 of the party decided on the Cheese Cake, where they put it don't know as i was stuffed !!! Will definitely be back the service from the attentive young waiter, the chefs cooking and warm friendly atmosphere make this a winner not to mention the value for money !! Keep up the good work and come the Spring I will look forward to some alfresco dining
